A virtual assistant (VA) performs tasks remotely that support business owners in order to help them run and grow their business.
The tasks can range from handling someone’s schedule, doing online research, managing social media accounts, providing customer support, answering emails etc.
Since this job can cover many areas, you can tailor your services to what you know how to do.
According to PayScale, a virtual assistant usually charge between $10.15 – $29.35 per hour.

Belay Solutions
US only. They are looking for full-time virtual assistants for non-project-based work. Some work as little as 10 hours per week while others choose to work 40+ per week.
PeoplePerHour.com
This is a UK based company offering opportunities for freelancers to earn money offering freelance service online.
Fancy Hands
US only. Looking for anyone good on the phone (requires an audio headset or iPhone headphone) and the ability to do Internet research. They pay $3 to $7 for each task completed.
2. Online Survey Takers
While I don’t consider this as a real work from home job, getting paid to take online surveys is a quick way to make money online or earn a side income in your spare time.
Companies conduct online surveys to collect data and learn more about their target audience to help improve their products and services.
A survey can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes to complete. The longer the survey the more you can earn and some pay as high as $100 per surveys.
Survey companies usually pay in cash via PayPal or with points that can be converted into gift cards.
Survey Junkie
With Survey Junkie, you earn points by answering surveys where 100 points are worth $1. To earn extra points, you can even refer friends to participate too.
Depending on how long it takes, you can earn between $0.50 to $50 per survey. Most surveys take between 1 to 2 minutes to complete.
They will tell you how many points you’ll earn and how long a particular survey will take so you can decide whether to take it or not.
You’ll earn $2 worth of points just for signing up and completing your profile.
Swagbucks (Get $5 just for signing up)
One of the largest online surveys for cash, Swagbucks works on a points system also called Swagbucks (SBs).
Besides answering surveys questions, you can also earn points for watching videos ($10 bonus), searching the web ($10 bonus), installing a browser and more.
These activities are pretty effortless allowing you to make money from them quite easily.
To make even more money, use their referral program to refer your friends and earn 10% of their earnings.
3. Freelance Writers
As a freelance writer, you can write blog posts, sales copy, email newsletters and others. You can work as a full-time employer, writing from home, if you choose.
The word count, whether it involves interviewing an expert or requires more in-depth research all affect how much you can charge.
According to PayScale, the hourly rate for a freelance writer is between $10.35 to $52.21. You can command a higher pay if you can find private clients that will agree to the rates you set.

Upwork
Upwork is another popular freelancing sites where freelance writers can find short-term, or one-time writing jobs.
Crowd Content
You can write blog posts, ebooks, press releases, white papers, newsletters, Facebook posts, tweets and more. They accept writers from the US, Canada, UK and Australia and only pick the best applicants
Problogger
This is a jobs board listing mostly blog writing jobs. While pay rates vary wildly, there are many high-paying jobs available here.
HowStuffWorks
Write how-to articles for this reputable website. US writers only. Pay attention to the application requirements to improve your chances of getting accepted.
Verblio
Verblio is a subscription service where clients need new content every month so they always have work available. To apply, you’ll need to understand search engine optimization, be 18 years or older and must be a US citizen.
Hire Writers
Currently accepting writers from the US, Australia, Canada, UK, Singapore and New Zealand. They use a rating system where better-rated writers could potentially earn more.
Online Writing Jobs
A freelance writing service that accepts only US writers who want to work remotely. They pay you around $15 though some projects will pay as much as $50.
Writer Access
Accept applicants from the US, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa and Ireland. Projects from the basic marketplace pay between 2.8 cents to 10 cents per word while pro projects pay 11 cents to $2 per word, flat rate fee or hourly rate.
4. Proofreading and Editing
If you have excellent grammar and spelling skills, can spot errors that others miss in text documents quickly, then freelance online proofreading and editing job may be for you.
The average salary for a proofreader is $42,978 per year or between $11.90 to $29.59 per hour.

While bookkeeping is part of the accounting process, it focuses more on accurate record-keeping rather than the analyzing and reporting of financial data.
In most cases, an accounting job requires more qualifications like a bachelor’s degree, while you can be a bookkeeper even with only a high school diploma.
Bookkeepers are often required to work from home and having previous experience can be helpful.
According to PayScale, a bookkeeper pay ranges from $11.87 to $25.06.

A transcription service is a task that converts speech (either live or recorded) into a written text document.
This job may include transcribing dictation from doctors, lawyers, a college lecture, videos and audio podcasts.
Often no prior experience is necessary to work as a transcriptionist. Sometimes all you need is a computer, be a good listener and the ability to type quickly.
Medical transcriptionists, for instance, earn between $10.90 to $20.98 per hour.

TranscribeMe
Earnings starting at $15-$22 per audio hour and top monthly earnings at $2,200 (average monthly earnings are $250). Transcriptionists with specialized backgrounds in medical and legal fields are paid a higher rate.
7. Bloggers
If you’re passionate about something or have an expertise in a particular subject, consider starting a blog.
As a blogger, you can make money by displaying ads, accepting sponsored posts, doing affiliate marketing, or selling your own products or services.
Truth be told, creating a successful blog requires serious effort, dedication, massive time investment and won’t happen overnight.
Most bloggers make nothing in their first year, while some are generating $2000 monthly on their sixth-month blogging. Some even manage to pull over $100,000 monthly one year after starting!

8. Work From Home Jobs With Amazon
Amazon is hiring home-based workers for various positions ranging from technical support agents, business coaches, customer service representatives, to work from home data entry jobs.
To apply, you don’t have to live near a physical Amazon location as some positions are virtual opportunities (but may not be available in all areas).
According to Glassdoor, Amazon work at home customer service representatives make $10 per hour on average. But salaries can vary widely depending on your position and job responsibilities.

QKids
Accepts applicants from the US and Canada. Qkids connects 300,000+ Chinese young learners between 4-12 years old with you. Requires a bachelor’s degree or above and must be able to teach 6 or more hours weekly. The contract term is 6 months with the possibility to extend.
VIPKid
Hires home-based ESL or English as Secondary Language teachers for Chinese children.
They pay between $14-$22 per hour teaching 30-minute virtual classes. You can also set your own schedule with no hourly requirements per week. Must be a native English speaker and has a stable Internet connection.
Magic Ears
Another online platform like VIPKid that hires native English speakers from the US and Canada to teach 4 to 12 year-old children in China. Pays $9 to $13 for a 30 minutes lesson.
SayABC
Accepts teachers from US, Canada and Australia. Must be a native English speaker with a bachelor’s degree or above. Pays up to $21 for a 40 minutes lesson.
10. Online Graphic Designers
The demand for illustration and graphic design work continues to grow as more bloggers and online businesses gravitate online to run their business.
Graphic designers use computer software like Photoshop to design layout for advertisements, logos, book covers, brochures, photo editing and more.
If you’re a creative person who loves working from home, know how to use graphic design software like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign this could be for you.

Upwork is a freelancing marketplace where you need to actively pitch for work to compete with other graphic designers.
Dribbble
This is a site meant for designers to showcase their work. In order to publish your work, you’ll need to be invited by another user. You can’t make money directly via Dribbble though. Instead, when someone sees your work and like it, they can contact and hire you.
Fiverr
The place to offer micro graphic design. One of the best ways to make money on Fiverr is to automate your workflow. For example, if you can modify a template quickly to produce custom graphic, you can make $5 in a few minutes.
DesignCrowd
Another graphic design marketplace where a customer can start a contest for their design project. Freelance graphic design jobs are also available where you’ll be working with a customer on a one-to-one basis.
Toptal
Toptal is an online marketplace to hire vetted freelance software developers, designers, product managers from anywhere in the world.
The difference between Toptal and Upwork is that freelancers will go through a vetting process before they get accepted. Freelancers can’t apply for a project, they can only be assigned by Toptal’s staff.
Authentic Jobs
This is a job board to hire UI/UX designers, developers and creative professionals. You can limit the search results to only show remote jobs by enabling the remote filter.
11. Translators
If you are bilingual and have a good understanding of the cultural differences between different languages, working at home as an online translator is a good option.
As a translator, your job is to convert one language into another language either through a written document or spoken word or audio.
Translators can earn anywhere between $10.30 to $37.48 according to PayScale.

While it can be competitive with other sitters, once you get a few jobs and have a good client base, you can start earning extra income on the side doing what you enjoy.
Wag
Wag connects dog owners with dog walkers. To qualify as a dog walker, you’ll need to have prior experience with dogs and at least three personal recommendations.
The amount of money you make per walk varies based on location and walk length. On average, a walker makes $12 plus tip for a 30-minute walk.
13. Vlogger/YouTubers
If you love making videos, have an expertise or a talent, you can join the vlogging bandwagon and use Youtube to showcase your creativity and teach, inform and entertain others.
You can make money from ads when you have at least 1,000 subscribers or 4,000 hours of watched content monthly.
Now, instead of relying on ads income alone, you could:

This is a global company that uses crowdsourcing for various microtasks such as writing, translating and data entry. Clickworkers who do work that is deemed to be of high enough quality can be eligible for higher rates of pay.
Cass Information Systems
Offer location-based position worldwide. Look for remote data verification clerk for data entry positions. Requires on-site training before you can do the work from home.
SigTrack
Hires seasonal data entry operators located in the US. You’ll need to do a 3 minute Skype interview to prove your identity and US residency. Pay rate varies by projects and is paid weekly via PayPal.
Xerox Virtual Office Program
Offers various work at home positions including data entry/verification. Be sure to select the Virtual Office filter before running your search job.
16. Apps and Websites Testers
This online job involves reviewing websites or mobile apps navigation and functionality and then sharing the findings in a video.
Usually, there are instructions you need to follow to evaluate whether a website is intuitive to use and easy to navigate.
Since there are many registered testers eager to take any test, you would probably not get as many tests as you would like.
The number of tests you’ll be offered also depends on whether your profile matches with the company-specific requirements.
So approach this as a side-gig rather than as an actual online job.
Most sites pay $10 for running a 15-20 minutes test.
UserTesting
UserTesting accepts testers from anywhere in the world. Pays $10 via PayPal for every 20-minute video you complete. You will receive payment 7 days after completing a test.
Try My UI
You’ll run a usability test for websites and apps and give your honest feedback by letting the designers and coders see the obstacles normal people run into. You will be paid $10 for a 20 minutes test. Payments are sent out every Friday through Paypal.

Another usability testing platform that let you share your thoughts as you use a website or app. Each test lasts 10-20 minutes which will earn you $10. You do it from your home computer or smartphone. Payment is via PayPal or Amazon Gift Cards.
Enroll
Test which logo is better, clarify content or test websites before they are published. They pay once a month and you must be 13 years or older to sign up.

Get paid $10 to test websites for 10-15 minutes.
17. Customer Support & Call-Center Representative
Work in this line involves taking calls or making calls for tech support, setting appointments, taking incoming sales and so on.
Having a good computer, probably a landline and high-speed Internet access, great people skills as well as a quiet home environment are necessary for this work-at-home customer service job.
The average salary for a call center representative is $34,354 or between $10.01 to $17.65 per hour according to PayScale.
Call Center QA
CallCenterQA.org works with companies in the US to offer individualized telephone mystery shopping programs for their clients.
You’ll earn $5 to complete a 5-10 minutes telephone mystery shop along with a brief one-page long online feedback form.
Accolade Support
US only. You’ll be working on project-based contracts and must have the ability to make cold calls over the phone. Pay is per minutes in addition to bonuses. Many agents earn around $7.25 to $10.00 per hour on a weekly basis.
InfoCision
Their work from home job allows you to make calls for well-known non-profit organizations and require a minimum commitment of 28 hours per week.
Kelly
Kelly hires work-at-home customer service representatives. Starting pay is $13-$15 per hour. You’ll be eligible for a one time $500 training completion bonus at you 90-day tenure.
A Better Call
US only. They hire B2B and lead generators to provide business sales leads, appointment setting and business to business telemarketing services to companies throughout the US.
This is 100% phone work and they’re looking for someone who excels at appointment setting or cold calling. The top representatives earn around $20 per hour or more.
